Tile Industry Workshop
Newcomers and established members of industry will benefit by gaining a sound understanding of the historic and contemporary development of tile as a decorative and functional hard surfacing material.
Bryan Vadas, the principal of Time Masters will act as MC. Bryan and several authoritative members of the industry will provide a comprehensive overview of tile terminology, resources, key standards, installation, care and maintenance processes. Attendees will receive course materials and formal recognition of their participation endorsed by the Australian Tile Council. The Tile Industry Workshop is brought to you by Parex Davco Australia

| 9.15 am – 10.15am | ORIGINS OF TILE – Garreth Cruikshank, Ocean & Merchant
Garreth travels back through time and traces the development of the humble ceramic tile, Garreth has travelled the world photographing numerous sites of interest, and many forms of tile. This pictorial journey will also touch on major technical developments leading up to and including the first dust press and the tiles produced in England during the industrial revolution. |

Bryan removes the shroud of mystery surrounding frequently misused terminologies associated with tiles. As technology advances and new methodologies are introduced, tile terminology has changed leading to misinterpretation. Bryan will provide the correct definitions that industry will be able to correctly express. |

How do we know if a tile will withstand the rigours it will be subjected to? What do terms like ‘PEI-V’, ‘R-11’ AND ‘MOHS 8’ actually mean, how are these results determined and how do they apply in specifying tiles for a particular usage? Colin Cass provides a basic explanation of how tiles are tested and the content of the most important standards. |

INSTALLATION BASICS & ADHESIVE SELECTION - Andrew Nunn, Parex Davco
Andrew will outline the basic requirements for substrate preparation and an overview of regular floor and wall tiling techniques, which will provide sales staff with an understanding of the tiling process and the adhesive selection process. |

B.A.T Trims will provide an overview of the practical advantages of using tile trims and the importance of providing appropriate movement and expansion joints. |

The popularity of polished porcelain in our market calls for an understanding of how one determines if a product requires sealing and how sealers work. Scott also examines basic maintenance techniques. |
