Barry Schafer has been the chairman of Standards Australia Committees on waterproofing since 1990. He was the Technical Manager of CSIRO Appraisals for 23 years until his retirement in 2002. During this time he developed a testing protocol for membranes used in wet areas which was incorporated into the standard AS/NZS 4958 - 2004, 'Wet area membranes'.
