Malcolm Lambert worked as an atmospheric physicist for the Australian Ionospheric Prediction Service, the German Max Planck Institute for Aeronomie and the Australian Antarctic Division on projects ranging from monitoring sea-level CO2 concentrations to detecting middle atmosphere clouds responsible for the Antarctic ozone hole. He was prompted to make a career change to research in the construction industry almost by accident whilst building his own house, partly out of stone rubble. He was aware of the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and saw very low embodied energy building material such as stone rubble being underutilised. Since 2004 he has been researching methods for a greater utilisation of stone rubble in the construction industry as the Principal of Intresto Pty Ltd.
